The Black Hills State University (BHSU) physics group invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship position.
As the closest institution to the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF), BHSU is uniquely positioned with easy access to the exciting underground science occurring on its 4850L. BHSU is a member of the world-leading direct dark matter detection LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment and runs the low-background counting facility at SURF, the BHSU Underground Campus (BHUC). Successful applicants will spend significant time working with the Berkeley Lab Dark Matter group on LZ analysis, LZ calibration, assay, and detector R&D efforts.
DUTIES:
The post-doc’s responsibilities will be distributed between research and development efforts for low-background assay and LZ data analysis. While the post-doc will be based at BHSU, they will initially spend six months with the LBNL dark matter group and subsequently each year spend two months to maintain the strong partnership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in particle/astroparticle physics or a closely related field by the time the appointment begins.
COMMENTS:
- This is a two-year appointment with an opportunity to renew for a third year based on successful performance.
