Kate Gleason College of Engineering
KGCOE Mechanical Engineering
Job Summary
The Fluid-Acoustic-STructure (FAST) laboratory at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), directed by Dr. Byron D. Erath, is looking for a motivated Ph.D. graduate to perform postdoctoral research in the field of fluid-structure interactions.
Funded by an NSF award, the research is experimental in nature and will focus on resolving the flow mechanics and resultant wall pressure loading produced by vortex rings impacting surfaces of varying geometry. The work is applicable to the production of human phonation, which is a core research thrust of the FAST lab. As such, the ability to collaborate and interface with researchers across a variety of disciplines (e.g., clinicians, surgeons, engineers) is critical.
Job Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities will include data acquisition (flow visualization, particle image velocimetry (PIV), pressure, acoustic, and high-speed video/kinematic measurements), analysis, and dissemination of results. The postdoc will also be expected to take a leadership role within the lab, helping to mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers.
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated history of research excellence through publications and presentations, with prior research experience in experimental fluid mechanics and/or voiced speech production.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
