This position is a part-time program staff role within OSU’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA Program. Program staff lead and manage volunteer staff providing no-cost tax preparation services to clients. Program staff are required to successfully complete OSU VITA training, achieving Advanced and Foreign-Student VITA tax preparation certification.

Position Duties
• Provide professional and friendly tax preparation services for qualified clients from community populations including students, low and moderate-income individuals and families, the elderly, those with disabilities, and ESL-speakers.
• Develop a strong customer service environment by addressing client needs, navigating challenging situations, and overcoming difficult conversation topics by empowering and guiding the client through the VITA process. Engage in respectful, understanding, and active listening to ensure excellent client experiences.
• Effectively lead by ensuring other VITA team members are supported, motivated, and mentored. Foster a facilitative, respectful, educational, and collaborative environment, demonstrating service excellence to VITA’s standards.
• Provide on-site management by overseeing daily setup and closing procedures, as well as consulting and solving staff and client needs during operations. Manage and assess complex situations and concerned clients, resolving client and/or staff concerns.
• Support VITA training for volunteers. Proactively learn information to level capable of providing subject matter expertise and support, utilizing IRS VITA software, training, and resources. Assist in and/or facilitate training delivery.
• Create and/or distribute marketing materials to engage new clients and volunteers. Champion VITA services with university and community partners. Identify new strategies and methods to reach target audiences.
• Coordinate with VITA Site Coordinator and OSU program staff to schedule clients and volunteers. Leverage communication channels and scheduling software to enhance client and volunteer experience. Proactively seek feedback and utilize learnings for continuous improvement.
• Use tools for tracking return completions, refund amounts, volunteer hours and other relevant data as needed to support the Site Coordinator with grant reporting and team scoreboards.
• Participate in weekly team meetings. Support clients via callback, email, and social media as needed.

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
- High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
- Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
- Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
- Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
- Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Working Conditions/Work Schedule: Expected time commitment is 15 hours per week January through April; 6-10 hours per week in fall term (if applicable). The role will require in-person work with volunteers and taxpayers outside of regular business hours. This includes weekday evenings and weekend afternoons.
